Things to do in Lisbon by a Lisboeta (someone born and raised in Lisbon)

Wonder around in Lisbon is one of the best programs you can do. Enjoy the atmosphere, stop once in a while for a drink, then for food, for coffee…
Visit Lisbon Castle (Castelo de São Jorge), It is a proper big Castle, with lots to explore, beautiful views, facilities to have food or enjoy a glass of delicious Portuguese wine.
Eat pastel de Nata *egg custard cake* with a coffee (Portuguese style would be an espresso DELTA, our beloved coffee brand. The original ones are in Belem, but if you don’t have time to go there you will be happy in the same way if you go to “Manteigueira” in Bairro Alto or “Fabrica da Nata” in Augusta Street, downtown.
Cross the River in one of our Ferrys. One of the best routs  is from ” Cais do Sodre” to “Cacilhas”. The trip is very relaxing, takes about 10m and you can enjoy the beautiful views. Once in Cacilhas you can have a walk in the Old Town of Almada, Visit the lift Boca do Vento and have a coffee In one of the many esplanades or eat an ice cream and then take you ferry back to Lisbon. The price of the ticket is incredibly cheap. Price is  €1.25 per trip!
Take the yellow tram. The most popular is n28 that takes you through Lisbon narrow roads in a very charming way to commute.
Wonder around the old historical quarters of Alfama or Bairro Alto.
Have a delicious, good value meal in one of our “Tascas”, a traditional humble restaurant with home made honest food.
Visit” Casa do Alentejo”, downtown building with amazing salons and similar to a Riad that you would find in Morocco.
Walk along river Tagus. And stop in one of the coffee shops by the river to have a “imperial” about half pint of lager. We serve them in these small glasses so the beer keeps cold.
Visit the Ocianarium, the largest aquarium in Europe.
Go to a” Tasca” by night and listen Fado, our traditional music.
It a cod fish cake that we call “Pastel de Bacalhau”.
Have a “ginginha” the Portuguese cherry liquor. There are a few traditional places downtown around Largo de São Domingos. Some places offer the possibility of having ginginha in a chocolate cup. I love it! And don’t forget to say if you want it ”com elas ou sem elas” with or without cherry inside the cup.
Eat bacalhau (salted dried cod) is out national dish. We cook it in 1001 ways at least. Maybe you can start with” Bacalhau com natas” which is cod fish with cream and potatoes. Is delicious!
Try our rice pudding with cinnamon, molotoff (merengue) or egg pudding.
Try a “bífana” with mustard ( pork steak on bread) or “prego” ( beef steak on bread).
Wonder around Chiado and Augusta street (downtown).
There is so much more in terms of monuments and museums, but I will leave it for another post.
