N o doubt, the best place is around Stockwell Road. Every other shop is a Portuguese premise. This area is known as little Portugal, and you can get any traditional dry goods, charcuterie, frozen products, butchers, wine cellars, restaurants etc. Some places also have Brazilian items. My favourite for shopping is Serrana, their wine cellar is pretty good. I also buy frozen items and delicatessen from them. For breakfast and lunch I like to go to Sintra café, and they also have a grocery attached and amazing pastel de nata for £1. Very good value for money but let me tell you that those places are very simple and humble. For dinner go to Grelha D`Ouro or o Cantinho . I have been to other places speacialy around Acton and I didn’t like the quality. So I keep going back to Stockwell,

W henever I travel, I always make an effort to learn at least a few basic words in the local language. I normal download one of the free apps available for telephones, and star standing the language 1 or 2 weeks before. I have found out that everywhere in the world people appreciate, at least the intention and make the interaction immediately easier. And if the lessons didn’t work, just remember: All people smile in the same language.

Esta foi sem dúvida uma das viagens da minha vida. Foi uma daquelas experiências em que sentes que não voltas a ser a mesma pessoa. Apesar de algumas peripécias pelas quais passei logo à chegada ao Parque, e tenho que dizer que nas primeiras 15horas, pensei mil vezes que me tinha arrependido de ter trocado umas férias de sonho, em qualquer outro lugar, para estar ali, actualmente tenho esta experiência de viagem no meu TOP 5! A chegada foi atribulada, perto da hora de fecho do campo (encerra às 17h e há multa para quem não der entrada atempadamente). Tivemos um elefante em direcção a nós logo nos primeiros 20 minutos de viagem, o que nos obrigou a uma marcha atrás, e devo dizer que nessa altura senti medo, pois aqueles não são os elefantes do Zoo nem do circo (felizmente). Depois a dificuldade em encontrar o nosso bangalow (que por lapso tinha sido atribuído a outra pessoa, a chuva de carochas que levei ao sair do carro debaixo de uma árvore ao entardecer, o morcego a sobr...

C abo Verde, no caso desta viagem, a Ilha do Sal. Tem uma localização privilegiada face a outros destinos de praia. Apesar de fazer parte do Continente Africano fica a apenas a 3h40m, de avião, a partir de Lisboa. Quem já visitou outros países em África, vai sentir que não se trata de África pura, mas também não é Europa. É uma mistura que resulta, em parte, por estar situada a meio de dois continentes, e por receber influências de ambos. o Arquipélago é composto por 10 ilhas, sendo que apenas nove são habitadas. O Clima é no geral quente, com uma brisa mais ou menos constante, o que faz com que o calor seja agradável e torna a prática de desportos como o surf ou kitsurf possível. S t. Hilarion is one of the most amazing Castles that I have visited. Located in the Northern part of Cyprus Island, in the designated area of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. The location is out of a fairy tale book and the Castle has the most amazing views. You have to pay to get in, but is just a small fee, and is a must see if you cross the border from South to North. We hired a car in the Southern side, but then we hat to buy a new car insurance (not expensive and recommended to be on the safe side) to circulate in the Northern part of the island, as if there is an accident, the insurance will only cover until the border. Get comfortable clothes and shoes, and be ready for a good 1 hour hiking. I n Portuguese we call it Cabo Verde,that means Green Cape. It was a Portuguese colony until 1975 therefore; the language spoken is Portuguese and Creole. The island is part of an archipelago of 10 volcanic islands in the central Atlantic Ocean. It forms part of the Macaronesia ecoregion, along with the Portuguese archipelago of Azores, Madeira Island, and the Savage Isles and the Spanish Canary Islands. It is located just 460 kilometres off the coast of Senegal (Africa), but still in Europe. You will be surprised that, in fact, the island is not that green as the name suggest, especially if you arrive in Sal, the capital. T hese salt ponds are located in the town of Maras, 40km form Cusco in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. The best way to get there is by renting a car or a tour. What masked this salt pond so special is their location, down a canyon that descends to the river Villcanota. These salt ponds have been used since pre Inca times, and basically the salt is produced by evaporating water that comes from a subterranean stream. Small channels, man-made, direct and control the water that is distributed onto several hundred small terrace pounds distributed in cascade. This terraces are owns by local people, and we were told that now a days,   most of the salt is used for cattle. Once in Maras there are plenty of little shops where you can by salt with all sort of mixtures and products with it added like chocolate. This was one of the highlights of the trip. We went at the end of the day and we could enjoy it with the sun setting.

F oi uma viagem muito agradável. Tirando o facto de ter perdido todas as fotografias da máquina digital e de ter tido de comprar uma descartável! Para dizer a verdade, também foi a primeira viagem que fiz em lazer sozinha. Madrid é uma cidade cheia de opções e com muito que fazer. Aterrando em Barajas , há ligação rápida do aeroporto ao centro da cidade. Madrid é super interessante e apesar de ser apenas a 40m de avião de Lisboa nunca lá tinha ido. Resultado: foi um déjà vu!! Buenos Aires tem muito de Madrid, mas de uma forma mais exótica ! A arquitectura , os cafés tradicionais, as avenidas…Devia ter visitado os locais na ordem inversa. Madrid é daquele tipo de destinos,  que vale a pena revisitar de vez em quando para um fim-de-semana de compras ou cultural, uns passeios de comes e bebes e de diversão. E para quem gosta da noite, pareceu-me muito  boa! Há várias opções de alojamento e de alimentação bastante económicas, é mesmo uma questão de procurar pela ne...

A ndávamos doidos para ir à neve, sem bem que eu nunca me tinha lembrado de aprender a fazer ski, esse desporto queque, chique, do bem e aparentemente inato a qualquer ser de boas famílias. Assim o provam as edições da Hola, Hello e outras revistas de cultura geral. E foi assim, depois de muito nos informarmos sobre o tema, marcamos as nossas férias na Serra Nevada. Na véspera, fomos buscar o Mercedes novinho em folha para arrancarmos para a nossa viagem de sonho, com o nosso carro de sonho, e claro ideal para as montanhas, neve e desporto de aventura. Mal chegamos ao destino, estava uma grande confusão e constatámos que tinha caído um nevão imenso. Como amadores nas lides das neves, ao chegarmos, em vez de entrarmos para a garagem para estacionar o carro, resolvemos dar uma volta para ver se havia estacionamento. O que nós não sabíamos era que conduzir em Serra Nevada depois de um nevão, é um inferno!! Começámos bem mal as nossas férias… Foi por milímetros que não ba...

Y es, I went to Iceland in January and I absolutely recommend it. In spite of what you might think, Iceland, normally, in winter time is not terrifying cold. This year was extremely cold but that is an exception. Just landing in a beautiful white island in the Atlantic is an unforgettable experience. And then wrapped up in warm clothes, explore and enjoy the enormous variety of activities and experiences is just amazing. I have no doubt that winter in Iceland makes an amazing holiday/ weekend break. I hope I can go back again!

O ne of the first questions people ask me about tailor made clothes in Vietnam and especially in Hoi An, is if it is worth to have it done. Well, I can only speak from my own experience, and the answer is yes! I’m very happy with what I have ordered and with service. We chose Yaly Couture-Tran Phu branch, and We couldn’t be happier.  After some research on TripAdvisor, and visiting a few Tailors, we decided for Yaly Couture – Tran Phu branch. First because we were impresses by their welcome, and by their already made clothes, second, the other places we visited, didn’t sound confident enough or were far more expense and third, not many shops had their in house Tailors as Yaly´s does. Talking about prices, It might not be cheap as you expect specially  if you chose a good Tailor, or if you want an elaborated model, even though, I thought $100 for each silk skirt and blouse suit, that I have ordered, was a very good price, especi...

W onder around in Lisbon is one of the best programs you can do. Enjoy the atmosphere, stop once in a while for a drink, then for food, for coffee… Visit Lisbon Castle (Castelo de São Jorge), It is a proper big Castle, with lots to explore, beautiful views, facilities to have food or enjoy a glass of delicious Portuguese wine. Eat pastel de Nata *egg custard cake* with a coffee (Portuguese style would be an espresso DELTA, our beloved coffee brand. The original ones are in Belem, but if you don’t have time to go there you will be happy in the same way if you go to “Manteigueira” in Bairro Alto or “Fabrica da Nata” in Augusta Street, downtown. Cross the River in one of our Ferrys. One of the best routs  is from ” Cais do Sodre” to “Cacilhas”. The trip is very relaxing, takes about 10m and you can enjoy the beautiful views. Once in Cacilhas you can have a walk in the Old Town of Almada, Visit the lift Boca do Vento and have a coffee In one of the many esplanades or eat...

S eptember brought lots of changes to my personal life,  and I’m taking this opportunity to start something new. I’m looking for a more meaningful life, were I can enjoy the small big things of everyday. A good coffee, a beautiful walk, company of family and friends, time to enjoy a hobby, a good meal, watch a film, read a book and so many other beautiful things. I hope, by writing this blog, I remember  how important it is to look after myself and after the ones I love. The first photo is dedicated to one of my precious moments. Everyone knows that in Portugal we are crazy about BACALHAU, cod fish. The main difference to the UK is that we don’t use it fresh. We use the salted version that needs to be unsalted by leaving the dried salted cod in cold water for a certain time depending on the size of the cut. And we cook it 1001 ways, at least. We can do carpaccio with that, but I prefer the smoked version because I think the smoky flavour adds something to any dish. This version is the one I make at home and is very, very easy. Ingredients: 1 pack of smoked cod fish 0/5 lemon to squeeze The best olive oil to taste Chopped coriander to taste 1 Garlic clove Black pepper to taste Preparation: Cut 1 garlic clove in half and rub it on the plate that you are going to display the cod.
